Easter:

The Time After Pentecost:

The Ember Days in September are celebrated during the week following the calendar week in which September 14 falls. They are found after the 17th Sunday after Pentecost in the Missale Romanum.

    • Ember Wednesday in September: Missa 'Exsultate Deo'
    • Ember Friday in September: Missa 'Laetetur Cor'
    • Ember Saturday in September: Missa 'Venite Adoremus Deum'

Easter being variable, the number of Sundays from Pentecost to the First Sunday of Advent is, of course, variable also; but there cannot be less than twenty-three, nor more than twenty-eight. The Mass for the Last Sunday after Pentecost, below, is always said on the Sunday preceding Advent. If there are more than twenty-four Sundays after Pentecost, the Introit, Gradual, Offertory, and Communion of the twenty-third Sunday are repeated on all the remaining Sundays. But the Prayers, Epistle and the Gospel are taken from the Masses of the Sundays omitted after the Epiphany, in the following order:

  • If there are 24 Sundays after Pentecost (when Easter falls after April 16th),
    • the Last Sunday after Pentecost follows the 23rd Sunday.
  • If there are 25 Sundays after Pentecost (when Easter falls between April the 10th and 16th),
    • on the 24th Sunday are said the Prayers, the Epistle, and the Gospel of the 6th Sunday after the Epiphany.
  • If there are 26 Sundays after Pentecost (when Easter falls between April the 3rd and 9th),
    • on the 24th Sunday are said the Prayers, the Epistle and the Gospel of the 5th Sunday after the Epiphany,
    • on the 25th Sunday are said the Prayers, the Epistle and the Gospel of the 6th Sunday after the Epiphany.
  • If there are 27 Sundays after Pentecost (when Easter falls between March the 27th and April the 2nd),
    • on the 24th Sunday are said the Prayers, the Epistle, and the Gospel of the 4th Sunday after the Epiphany;
    • on the 25th Sunday the same parts of the 5th Sunday after the Epiphany are said,
    • and on the 26th Sunday those parts of the 6th Sunday after the Epiphany are said.
  • And lastly, if there are 28 Sundays after Pentecost (when Easter falls between March the 22nd and the 26th),
    • on the 24th Sunday are said the Prayers, the Epistle and the Gospel of the 3rd Sunday after the Epiphany;
    • on the 25th, those same parts of the 4th Sunday after the Epiphany;
    • on the 26th, those same parts of the 5th Sunday after the Epiphany,
    • and on the 27th Sunday, those parts of the 6th Sunday after the Epiphany.
